Introduction

Ladybug StudioXP enables a user to create, manage, and publish movie effect video. Unlike normal video editing software, Ladybug StudioXP provides script written by Media Control Language (mCL) to control video playback, compose and generate visual effects. You can modify several attributes in the scripts to control video playback. You can add text over a video and roll the text down. You can generate fade in and fade out effect during a video playback. You can save time to cut and paste thousand clips and watch your trial result quickly. Finally, you can reuse your original video clips without generate lots of immediate testing copies.

The left picture is the original space shuttle video sanpshot. The right picture is the snapshot of the same video after the real-time processing of HLSL vertex shader with the blue light over the video.

Ladybug StudioXP consists of an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for Media Control Language (mCL). The IDE includes an index viewer; a script editor; a keyword wizard; a syntax checker; a debugger; a bytecode compiler; and a mCL engine.

Annotation Ladybug StudioXP supports MPEG-1, VCD, and AVI video; BMP, PNG, and GIF image; as well as MP3 and WAV audio. The transforms include FADE, WIPE, and others. There are mCL sample codes in tutor and showcase sections, you may modify and rewrite them for new applications. Ladybug StudioXP supports Windows95, 98, ME, 2000, NT; especially it works better on Windows XP.

The mCL script can be used alone with Office, Database, Languages, and Browser. You can insert a mCL script object into the PowerPoint and show the video presentation. You can also add scripts into the Word document and Excel cell. Moreover you can build video database with the mCL scripts in the Access and other Database. You may use scripts with languages as the VB, C++, and Java. Finally you can use scripts with an Internet browser.

Ladybug Run XP can help you add, remove, and run the mCL scripts. Simply double click the item you can launch a mCL program. Double click the right mouse button over the highlight item, you can insert a mCL script linking.

Background and Vision

Annotation Today digital camera is becoming to popular. The digital picture can be easily stored, copied, and processed. The price of digital camera has dropped down rapidly. The picture quality is excellent. Software can help to watch these pictures on PC and other devices.

At the same time, the digital video (DV) market is growing at fast pace. The digital video cameras are expected to be sold over 8 million in 2001. The video editing marketing has the growth rates of 20% annually. DVD, broadband, set-top box, and wireless are providing platforms for digital video applications. Traditional video editing applications such as broadcast, post processing, and film have over 50% share in video application today. Other new and fast growth of video applications are on the education, corporation, government, and web design.

The DVD video has become a main format to distribute and store digital movie. The CD writer and new DVD writer let a user store and backup his own video. So there are huge needs for video editing software.

Movie making is a complicated procedure. Usually it costs a lot to generate an attractive effects. New digital technoloy reduces the cost and generate new visual and audial effects. Ladybug StudioXP approaches a new way for video editing.

The development of 3D technoloy has made it be possible to generate real life video and movie. Today the game industry is based on the 3D technology.

Broadband communication makes it be possible to watch and transfer video through the network fast.

Wireless multimedia is a way for portable communication. You can watch the video anytime, anywhere with a wireless device. NTT DoCoMo has started to test the 3G wireless multimedia applications in Oct 2001.

What is Ladybug StudioXP

Ladybug StudioXP consists of an Integrated Development Environment (IDE), Media Control Language (mCL), and a Ladybug PlayerXP. Ladybug Studio XP works on all 32bit Windows and supports the special features of Windows XP. Ladybug StudioXP supports MPEG-1, VCD, and AVI video; BMP, PNG, and GIF image; as well as MP3, WAV, and AIF audio. There are mCL sample codes in tutor and showcase, you may modify and rewrite them for new applications. The mCL is very easy to write and test.

Benefit of Ladybug StudioXP

  • Reduce the cost of development
  • It costs a lot of money and time to make a movie. A major expense is in the movie composition and generate special effects. It includes reapeatly trial and redo. By using scripts, Ladybug StudioXP can generate trial and preview quickly.

  • Content reuse
  • Since Ladybug StudioXP did not modify original video/audio contents, you can reuse these clips repeatly. To modify scripts, you can design many combinations for different cinamatic effects.

  • Customization
  • The easily written and modified scripts can control media playback. You can customize the rendering result without generate a new video copy.

    New areas to approach

    • physical simulation, noise filter, collision detection
    • radiosity and ray-tracing
    • real-time photon tracing
    • thermodynamic simulations, fluid flow
    • realistic shadows
